Vehicles and helicopters for beginners
What each class is for, why you should ride before you buy, and how a helicopter's controls are laid out.
Ride before you buy
No vehicle is free. The smallest helicopter, the MH-6 Little Bird, is $6,250, and a Havoc is $18,000 on top of a $500,000 unlock. Riding in a teammate's vehicle costs nothing, and a few minutes into each match a free Huey spawns for anyone to fly. For your first matches, get in someone else's. Press F to enter or leave a vehicle. As a helicopter passenger, right-click asks the pilot to drop you off.
Vehicles do not come with ammunition; you buy it separately after the vehicle. Fuel runs out on long trips and is refilled at a FOB refuel station once one is built.
What each class is for
- Quad and buggy
- BobCat $500, Dune Buggy $1,500. One or two people, no armour, cheap enough to leave in a ditch. The BobCat needs no level.
- SUV and truck
- Kodiak $2,500, Ural $5,000. Squad transport. The Kodiak is the fastest thing on the ground at 154 km/h; the Ural carries logistics crates and exposed standing passengers. Some variants carry a machine gun.
- Humvee
- From $3,000, Driver level 15. The only fully armoured transport line.
- Transport helicopter
- MH-6 $6,250; UH-1Y Huey $7,400 (listed as the Z20 Lakota in our catalog). The fast way to the zone. The UH-1Y carries two crew and eleven passengers, more than double any ground vehicle.
- Attack helicopter
- AH-6M $7,000, AH-6R $12,500, Havoc $18,000. Crew only, no passengers.
- Tank and anti-air
- L2A6 $14,000; Flakpanzer Gepard $8,000 to $10,000 depending on the source. Gated on WARDOG level 35 and 45, with unlocks up to $500,000. They burn fuel three to four times faster than a transport.
- Artillery
- SPH-2 $8,000, level 55 and a $400,000 unlock. Three crew. See spotting for artillery.
Transports unlock by Driver or Pilot level, which only rise while you drive or fly. Combat vehicles unlock by overall WARDOG level, so they arrive whether you drive or not.
Do not solo the expensive ones
A tank lists two or three crew because the jobs are split; alone, you are a $14,000 vehicle with nobody watching the flanks. A helicopter with one person in it moves nobody, and moving people is where the vehicle money is: $300 to $450 per passenger delivered to the zone, plus $500 each if they survive the drop. Fill the seats before you leave HQ.
Killing a teammate costs you $1,500, and that includes passengers you kill by crashing. Learn a new vehicle on your own before you carry a squad.
Helicopter controls
The default flight layout, from the community bind lists. The full map, with what is disputed, is on our binds page.
| Key | Action |
|---|---|
| Shift | Collective up (climb) |
| Ctrl | Collective down (descend) |
| W / S | Cyclic pitch forward and back (nose down, nose up) |
| A / D | Cyclic roll left and right |
| Q / E | Yaw left and right |
| Alt, held | Free look. Double-tap to lock the camera. |
| Space | Parachute or bail out. Never rebind a flight action onto it. |
| F | Enter or exit |
The mouse also drives the cyclic, though some beta players reported only roll registering. A separate in-vehicle sensitivity, up to 2.0, applies to turret and rotor aim. Practise with the free Huey somewhere empty: climb, hover, land, then do it again with nobody in the back. MetaForge's advice to passengers is the mirror of this: only fly with a pilot you have seen land.
